Tech info Philips Videopac G7000

TI realy like the very first game and homecomputers and I own some of them, just for fun. The Philips G7000 was derived from the Magnavox Odyssey 2, a home video game console of the second generation that was released in 1978. It faced competition from a number of other consoles, including the Atari 2600, Intellivision, and Colecovision. In the early 1970s, Magnavox pioneered the home video game industry and brought the first home console to market, In 1975 Magnavox was fully acquired by Philips.

In 1975, Intel began development on a graphics chip for their processors known as the Intel 8244, a very rare chip nowedays. The graphics chip was the world’s first programmable sprite-based graphics chip. What facinated me the most was the fact that it uses an Intel 8048 8-bit microcontroller running at 5.37 MHz (NTSC) or 5.91 MHz (PAL). It used the internal 64 bytes of internal ram and the internal 1024 bytes of internal rom of the 8048 and had 128 bytes of external sram. The video chips used the other 128 bytes of external sram space. This is very minimal and considering the games that were written, very impressive coding.

The video had a resolution of 160×200 with a 16-color fixed palette (sprites may only use 8 of these colors. The system supported four 8×8 single-color user-defined sprites. The audio was also produced by the Intel 8244/8245, it was mono and used as 24-bit shift register, clockable at 2 frequencies, and a noise generator.

The ROM cartridges were typically 2 KB, 4 KB, or 8 KB of size, note the 8048 can address only 4048 bytes of rom.uite a few emulators and Nintendo NES games can be played on almost any platform. A few years ago I made Nintendo NES case console by means of a Raspberry Pi a complete with hundreds of games on board. This page is about the Nintendo NES and everything I’ve collected about this over the past few years.

Schematics of the G7000

Here are the electronics schematics of the G7000 console, on the page they are reduced displayed, when you save these electronics schematics on your own computer by means of the right mouse button you will download them in large format.
